  • Thursday, June 29, 2017
  • 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM
  • NonProfit Center, 89 South Street Boston, MA 02111

The Disability Policy Consortium is hosting an exclusive viewing party for The Wounds We Cannot See, the award-winning documentary directed and produced by Alexander Freeman. Tickets available here.

The Wounds We Cannot See, tells the story of former US Navy Airman Nancy Ross of Hingham, Massachusetts who was violently raped during her service in 1988, which she likened to “friendly fire”. She has since struggled with addiction, mental illness and depression. She continues to battle Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as a direct result of her attack. She was honorable discharge from the Navy.

At the heart of the film is the idea that people must look past appearances and understand someone’s story before judging them. The evening promises to provoke meaningful conversation, and serve as a celebration for those who believe in greater rights for people with disabilities, especially those from the peer support and recovery movement.

Alexander Freeman is an award-winning filmmaker with cerebral palsy. His work focuses on disability and other social issues. Alexander is a graduate of Emerson College, where he majored in Film Production with a concentration in Directing. He will discuss his work after the film.

John Winske, Executive Director of the Disability Policy Consortium says, “The stigmas that society places on people who need or have needed mental health services are far more limiting than the actual disability, our brothers and sisters who are psychiatric survivors and trauma survivors need our love, support and friendship. The Wounds We Cannot See reminds us of these facts in a compelling way “
