About the Webinar:

The majority of sexual assault survivors are victimized by a non-intimate partner and more than half of sexual assaults occur where the victim lives. Housing protections traditionally available to domestic violence survivors are often unavailable to sexual assault survivors. And those protections that are available to sexual assault survivors struggle to shift from the domestic violence paradigm and address the unique needs of sexual assault survivors. This webinar will provide detailed practice tips on how to advocate for housing remedies for sexual assault survivors. The presenters will discuss early lease terminations, emergency transfers, perpetrator evictions, and reasonable accommodations.

About the Trainers:

Karlo Ng, Supervising Attorney, National Housing Law Project: Karlo focuses on housing issues impacting survivors of domestic and sexual violence and trafficking; fair housing and civil rights, with a focus on the special needs and housing issues of immigrants and people with limited English proficiency. Before joining NHLP, Karlo was an attorney at the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law in Washington, D.C.  Karlo received her law degree from Northeastern University School of Law.

Kelsey Worline, Staff Attorney, Victim Rights Law Center: Kelsey Worline represents rape and sexual assault victims throughout Massachusetts in a wide range of legal areas, including privacy, safety, and housing. As an attorney on the VRLC’s national Training and Technical Assistance grant, Kelsey provides individual consultations to Legal Assistance to Victims grantees and conducts on a number of topics including the civil legal response for sexual assault victims, identifying and addressing the housing needs of sexual assault survivors, and safety planning with non-intimate partner sexual assault victims.
